| History | Biodynamic agriculture is a specialized form of organic farming, developed from the original work of the Austrian Philosopher and Scientist, Rudolf Steiner, in 1924; this, firstly, focused attention on the urgent need for development today of low-external input sustainable production management practice, and secondly, this introduced an entirely new step in the use of specialist Bio-fermented prepared substances, (either manure or silica based), for use as 'field sprays' in high dilution, and six plant-based prepared substances to aid manure and compost management.Biodynamic agriculture leads to the improvement of soil fertility, plant vitality, animal health and food quality whilst incorporating all the established principles of organic farming. At the heart of the biodynamic approach is the idea of the farm as a self-sustaining evolving unit which relies, as far as possible, on home produced composts, manures and animal feeds and in which external inputs are reduced to a minimum. |
| The Bio-dynamic Agricultural Association owns and administers the Demeter Certified Trademark in the UK and is linked with a world-wide network of independent certifying organisations under the umbrella of Demeter International. The scheme is fully recognised by UKROFS (the UK Register Of Organic Food Standards) and both Demeter and EC Organic Standards are included in the standards manual. | |
